Venice 81. Zani, Tenderstories: "Honored by the success of April by Dea Kulumbegashvili"
Dea Kulumbegashvili achieved great success by winning the Special Jury Prize 2024 with her film April, which was showcased at the 81st Venice International Film Festival and co-produced by Tenderstories.
“We are deeply honored and proud to receive this significant recognition,” said Moreno Zani, Founder of Tenderstories, and Malcom Pagani, CEO. “This achievement at the Venice Film Festival fills us with immense emotion and gratitude. April, featuring an outstanding cast, presents an intense story that profoundly resonates with audiences.”
The film delves into a complex narrative of difficult motherhood, illegal abortions, and the role of women. After a newborn dies during childbirth, the morality and professionalism of gynecologist Nina come under scrutiny, especially amid rumors that she performs illegal abortions for those in need. The story explores both the tangible realities of life and the mysterious, unexplainable dimensions of human existence.
