Valerio Mastandrea’s second feature is now available on HBO Max.

Nonostante is set in a hospital where coma patients lead a parallel existence, cut off from their bodies, invisible to the living, yet fully present to one another. The protagonist has learned to navigate this limbo with a kind of ease, until a young woman’s arrival turns everything upside down and pulls him into a love story that shouldn’t have been possible.

The film opened the Orizzonti section at the 81st Venice International Film Festival and went on to win the Silver Ribbon for Best Original Story and the 2026 David di Donatello Award for Best Supporting Actor for Lino Musella. The cast includes Valerio Mastandrea, Dolores Fonzi, Lino Musella, Giorgio Montanini, Barbara Ronchi, Laura Morante, and Justin Alexander Korovkin.
