CORRIERE DELLA SERA - Marco Bellocchio, Honorary Palme d’or at Cannes Festival (where he brings the film about his late brother)
Ten years after winning the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in Venice, Marco Bellocchio will receive the Palme d’Honneur at the Cannes Film Festival on 16 July. “The awards – says the famous director immediately after receiving the news, accompanied by Paolo Del Brocco of Rai Cinema – serve to move forward, to make our work a little easier. I am happy with my life, with everything that has happened to me, this award represents something special. I have never received an award at Cannes, except in 1980 for Michel Piccoli and Anouk Aimée, the two main characters in my film ‘Salto nel vuoto'”. Bellocchio continues with his unmistakable disenchanted irony: “It is not a reward or a recovery, I have never thought of myself as a director for posterity, I am not one to complain, I have had 7-8 David di Donatello awards, I am not desperate, I have also been considerably awarded, this is quite exceptional”.
